Rooted

Community Guidelines

Last updated 25 October 2026

Rooted exists so Christian young adults can build real friendships, grow in faith and, if they choose, be introduced to someone with care. These guidelines keep that possible. They apply to everyone: members, applicants and coordinators.

Be honest and kind

Use your real name and honest information. Treat everyone with respect, including people you disagree with. Encourage; don’t shame.

Don’t impersonate anyone, create a deceptive profile, run a scam, or misrepresent your intentions to other members.

Respect and consent

  • No unwanted contact, sexual pressure, threats, intimidation, stalking, hate speech or coercion.
  • “No” is a complete answer. Anyone may decline an introduction, an invitation or a conversation without explaining why.
  • Don’t try to get around someone’s refusal of contact, including through another account or another person.
  • Never share another person’s private information without their permission.

Introductions between members are optional, need both people’s consent, and can be withdrawn at any time. Friendship in Rooted never means someone is “looking”, and choosing community only is always welcome.

Anyone can block another member. Blocking is private: the other person is not told. You and they stop seeing each other’s posts, and no introduction can be made between you. Blocking never stops you from reporting a concern.

Privacy of others

Don’t share screenshots, photographs, personal details, private messages, prayer requests or introduction information outside the people they were meant for, unless the person involved has agreed.

Rooted can’t guarantee that every member will follow this. Breaking these guidelines can lead to removal of content, restrictions, suspension or ending of membership.

Prayer requests and testimonies

The prayer wall is for requests, praise reports and encouragement. You choose who sees each post (only you, the prayer coordinators, or all approved members) and whether it shows your name. Coordinators who moderate the wall can still see who posted, so they can keep it safe.

Share only what you have permission to share. Don’t share someone else’s health information, crisis, family circumstances or other private details without their consent, even with good intentions. You never have to share more than you want to, and please don’t press others to. Posts are removed after 12 months.

Commercial activity

Scams, solicitation, spam, unapproved fundraising, and recruiting for businesses, financial schemes, political campaigns or other organisations are not allowed. Coordinators may publish approved church events, ministry activities and community opportunities.

Meeting in person

Approval means a coordinator reviewed your application and welcomed you. It is not a background check and not a guarantee about any person. Rooted does not verify identities beyond that review.

  • Meet in a public place, especially the first few times.
  • Arrange your own transport so you can leave when you want to.
  • Tell a trusted person where you are going and who with.
  • Keep personal details, such as your address and workplace, private until you trust someone.
  • If a situation feels unsafe, leave. You don’t owe anyone an explanation.

If you are in immediate danger, contact local emergency services first.

Raising a concern

Next to every prayer wall post, comment and introduction there is a Report button. Choose what the concern is (for example harassment, unwanted romantic contact, inappropriate content, impersonation, spam or a safety concern), add anything we should know, and send it. You will see a confirmation, and you can also block the person at the same time. For anything else, use the Feedback page (you can create a free account to reach it). It goes straight to the coordinators.

  • Only coordinators review concerns. We handle them as discreetly as we reasonably can, but we cannot promise absolute confidentiality: for example, we may need to speak to the person concerned, or involve others to keep people safe or meet legal duties.
  • Retaliating against someone for raising a concern in good faith is itself a breach of these guidelines.
  • We may remove content, or restrict or end an account, to protect the community.
  • We do not promise a specific response time, but every report is read by a coordinator, and safety concerns are marked urgent.
  • If you report something, you will not be told the outcome, because it may involve someone else’s privacy.
